Zdeněk Tůma (1960) graduated from the University of Economics, Prague, and later completed postgraduate studies at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In the early 1990s, he participated in reintroducing economics education at the Charles University, where he was appointed Associate Professor. He still lectures at Charles University today. In his academic career, he focuses on central banking and financial regulation. He has been the chief economist for the Patria Finance investment bank; in 1998 he left for the EBRD to become a member of the Executive Board; in 1999 he was appointed Deputy Governor of the Czech National Bank. In December 2000, he took over the position of Governor; where he served two terms until 2010. At present, he is fnancial services Partner at KPMG Czech Republic. He is on a number of scientific boards at various universities.
